Crazy Canyoning

We couldn't come to an adventure town (Wanaka, second only to Queenstown) and not do an extreme sport.  Instead of skydiving, we opted to go for a full day trip of canyoning.`  The canyon was in Mount Aspiring National Park, which had views of this beautiful mountain (Aspiring).Picture 001

Essentially, canyoning is a sport where adrenalin-seekers plunge themselves into a canyon through various methods:

Abseiling (rappelling backwards) down rock faces and waterfalls.Picture 015

Rappelling forwards down waterfalls.Picture 036 Picture 060

Hanging out behind waterfalls in icy cold water - but okay because we were wearing warm wetsuits.Picture 046

Sliding down naturally slippery rocks & waterfall chutes.Picture 085 Picture 131

And jumping from great heights into deep pools.Picture 052 Picture 097

It was a fabulous day out, and one we'll never forget!

OH MY GOD! Thank goodness I didn't know you were doing this in advance.Extreme or what? On the plus side sky diving you can do anywhere. All be it not with the same scenery. You two are amazingly crazy. Glad that you tried it.And it was a safe outcome.

It was actually super safe really. our guide was awesome (her name was Bronwen) and with only 4 people in the group, it made for a great day out.
